Ethylmercury Work

Health Hazards

Acute:
May cause acute neuropsychiatric symptoms (such as progressive speech, walking, hearing, or visual field constriction disorders), unconsciousness, and death.
May cause irritation to skin, mucous membranes, or respiratory tract, or exacerbate skin allergic reactions.

Chronic:
After abnormal sensations (glove, stocking-type, or solid tactile loss) or lip sensation abnormalities (such as tingling or numbness) occur, rapid onset of generalized motor incoordination may occur (mainly difficulty walking and speaking), intentional tremor of the hands, balance disturbances, nerve paralysis, abnormal neurological reflexes, muscle weakness around the eyes, or eye movement disorders, narrowed visual fields, or hearing loss may also be present.
Chronic skin exposure may induce irritant dermatitis or allergic urticaria.
Large exposure may cause renal tubular kidney damage.
Reproductive effects in men include reduced sperm count or male reproductive organ abnormalities; in women, it may lead to miscarriage or premature birth. Pregnant women exposed to organic mercury may give birth to fetuses with neurological or developmental problems or birth defects.

Suggestions:
Level 1 Management: No specific regulations.
Level 2-4 Management:
Consider health conditions unsuitable for this type of work, such as mental or neurological diseases (including epilepsy), endocrine diseases (including diabetes), kidney diseases, liver diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, arteriosclerosis, retinal diseases, contact dermatitis, and health protection for pregnant workers.
