Health Hazards
Acute:
Inhalation: Arsenic dust or mist may cause lung or upper respiratory tract irritation, diaphragm perforation, gastrointestinal disturbances, pharyngitis, and mouth inflammation, along with coughing, chest pain, and hoarseness.
Eye Contact: May cause keratitis, eyelid swelling, and conjunctival ulceration.
Ingestion: Metallic or garlic taste, thirst, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and arrhythmia.
Chronic:
Prolonged overexposure may cause skin and eye irritation, peripheral neuropathy in the hands and feet, and an increased risk of lung and skin cancers.
Chronic poisoning symptoms include weight loss, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite, and skin diseases.
IARC, NTP, and OSHA have classified arsenic as a carcinogen.
Arsenic exposure worsens lung, liver, kidney, and nervous system diseases.
Other symptoms include weight loss, hair loss, intermittent diarrhea and constipation.
Skin thickening on the palms and soles, skin rashes, peripheral neuropathy, leukemia, bone marrow suppression, and aplastic anemia.
Suggestions:
Level 1 Management: No specific regulations.
Level 2-4 Management:
Consider health conditions unsuitable for this type of work, such as mental or neurological disorders, anemia, liver disease, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, contact dermatitis, and health protection for pregnant workers.
