Manganese and Its Compounds Work
Manganese and Its Compounds Work
Health Hazards
Acute:
Inhalation: Inhaling high concentrations of fumes can cause metal fume fever, with symptoms such as chills, fever, stomach discomfort, vomiting, dry throat, coughing, limb pain, headaches, drowsiness, and weakness.
Skin and Mucous Membranes: High exposure can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
Chronic:
Affects the nervous system, causing difficulty in movement and balance, leg cramps, hoarse voice, memory problems, and irritability.
Prolonged high exposure can cause slurred speech, hand and foot tremors, hallucinations, or uncontrollable crying or laughing.
Affects the respiratory tract, causing manganese-induced pneumonia. Those with alcohol addiction, neurological, pulmonary, or liver diseases are more vulnerable.
Extrapyramidal neurological symptoms and signs may appear, such as walking difficulties, especially when turning, difficulty walking backward, and stiffness in the hands, feet, and trunk.
Loss or reduction of postural reflexes.
Decreased dexterity in fingers and toes.
Development of dystonia (muscle tension disorder).
Suggestions:
Level 1 Management: No specific regulations.
Level 2-4 Management:
Consider health conditions unsuitable for this type of work, such as central nervous system disorders (e.g., Parkinson's syndrome), chronic respiratory diseases, mental illnesses, liver diseases, kidney diseases, and contact dermatitis.
