Health Hazards

Acute:
Inhalation:
1.1 Affects the nervous system, causing drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, myocardial weakness, and impaired coordination.
1.2 Vapor causes mild respiratory tract irritation.
1.3 High concentrations decrease judgment, cause loss of balance, a sense of comfort, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears), which may lead to loss of consciousness and death.
Skin: Small amounts are absorbed through the skin, causing chronic effects and skin irritation.
Eyes: May cause eye irritation.
Ingestion:
4.1 Moderate amounts cause dizziness, excitement, and paleness, accompanied by flushing, weakness, headaches, respiratory arrest, chest tightness, and often visual disturbances.
4.2 Large amounts cause vomiting, drowsiness, rapid breathing, accelerated pulse, unsteady gait, and nervous confusion, with severe cases leading to loss of consciousness, seizures, and death.

Chronic:
Benzene affects the formation of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, with the extent and type of cell damage varying between individuals. It can cause leukemia.
May affect bone marrow, although the relationship with exposure time and intensity is not direct.
Long-term exposure to low concentrations may damage the nervous system, with typical symptoms such as hearing impairment, chronic headaches, dizziness, fainting, vision loss, and reduced balance.
Repeated long-term contact causes skin inflammation, dryness, scaling, and blistering, possibly leading to first- and second-degree burns.
Benzene crosses the placenta and is found in fetal blood. It can cause irregular menstruation in women and DNA damage in sperm for men.
Benzene exposure in workers may lead to chromosomal abnormalities.

Suggestions:
Level 1 Management: No specific regulations.
Level 2-4 Management:
Consider health conditions unsuitable for this type of work, such as blood diseases, liver disease, neurological disorders, contact dermatitis, and health protection for pregnant workers.
